Vocal recording - Blue Blueberry and vocal chain

A complete vocal recording chain: a Blue Blueberry condenser microphone, a vocal chain with preamp, compressors and equaliser, a boom stand and a Rycote InVision shockmount with pop filter.

The Blueberry has a large diaphragm and a cardioid pattern voiced for the human voice - a lifted midrange puts the vocal in front without any EQ, while a gently tamed top end forgives harsh consonants. It also has a built-in high-pass filter that cuts room rumble and footsteps.

The vocal chain finishes the job: the signal passes through a preamp, a compressor and an equaliser before it reaches the computer, so the vocal is finished at the tracking stage rather than after an hour of plugins.

The Rycote InVision shockmount kills stand knocks, and the built-in pop filter keeps plosives off the capsule - without one, a close-up take has to be rescued in the edit.
